Cole released his album "Cole World: The Sideline Story", and it not only classified as number one on the US Billboard 200 but was certified platinum as well by the Recording Industry Association of America. This acted as his inauguration as a rapper and he went on further to cement his presence in the industry with two more albums namely, "Born Sinner" in 2013 and "Forest Hills Drive" in 2014. It is interesting to note that both got the platinum label in the US.

It was the album, Forest Hills Drive that won him his first Grammy Award for the best rap album. But that is not all, for he went on from success to success since his next album "4 Your Eyez Only" not only ranked as number one on the Billboard 200 but was also certified as platinum and that was in April 2017. His last album to date; "KOD", has been released in April 2018.

J. Cole has not limited his skills but went on to self-teach himself the piano, and while working on his own career as a rapper, he acts as a producer for himself as well as other artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Janet Jackson, among others. 

There were times when he participated in acts alongside other artists such as Bas, Elite, J.I.D., Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar, Lute, Miguel, to name just a few.

J. Cole has also dipped his fingers in charity work and set up the Dreamville Foundation. And on a personal level, he is known to house, for free, single mothers in his childhood home in Fayetteville, North Carolina.

Dreamville Records is also one of his ventures and he started it in 2007 as such having his own record label. This in turn which helped him in releasing his own music, as well as acting as a label to other artists.

Rapper, producer, songwriter, among others, are just some of J. Cole’s enterprises but he is first and foremost a singer with hip-hop style to all his fans.
