The Washington Redskins were established on July 9, 1932, as a professional American football team. The team competed in their first season in 1932, headquartered in Inova Sports Performance Center at Redskins Park, Ashburn, Virginia while their training is based at Redskins Complex in Richmond, Virginia. The Washington Redskins currently plays their home matches at FedExField in Landover, Maryland. The franchise has played more than 1000 games since its inception 85 years ago and is also among only five franchises in the NFL to have recorded more than six hundred regular seasons together with postseasons wins, breaking this record in 2015.

The Washington Redskins is the first to have an official marching band in the NFL, as well as the first to establish a fight song, ‘Hail to the Redskins’. The team was originally known as the Boston Braves in 1932 before moving to Washington D. C. in 1937, and they won both the 1937 and 1942 NFL Championship games. They also won Super Bowls XVII, XXVI, and XXVI. During this period they lost 1936, 1940, 1943, and 1945 NFL Championship games in addition to Super Bowls VII and XVIII.

So far, they have made 24 playoff appearances with an on the whole postseason record of 23-18, as well as 14 Divisional Championship Titles, 6 in the NFL East and 8 in the NFC East. The Washington Redskins have also won the Conference Championships (NFC) 5 times in 1972, 1982, 1983, 1987, and 1991. The franchise’s league and conference affiliations since its conception include the National Football League from 1932 to date, Eastern division from 1933 to 1949, American Conference between 1950 and 1952, Easter Conference from 1953 to 1969, and Capitol Division between 1967 and 1969.

Washington Redskins offensive in 2016 marked multiple teams’ records such as having more than 6000 total net yards being the third time the team had achieved that in the franchise history. The team’s quarterback Kirk Cousins also set records in completions, attempts, and passing yards even breaking some he had set earlier in 2015. However, they missed the playoffs by losing 19-10 in a win-and-in scenario against New York Giants in the closing week of the season, but the team still finalized the season with an impressive record of 8-7-1.

The rivalry between Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins can be described as a sports rivalry where both NFL teams have won a combined 31 divisional titles and 10 NFL Championships, as well as eight combined Super Bowls. The rivalry between the two NFL teams began in 1960 when the Dallas Cowboys joined the league; however, the two teams were in different conferences but played in one game during that season. When the two teams were placed together in the same division in 1961, since then the teams have met twice in every regular season.  Additionally, the Thanksgiving Game of 2016 between the two teams was the most viewed regular season fame in Fox history.  The Washington Redskins' other tough rivals include the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles.
