Céline Marie Claudette Dion, popularly known as Celine Dion, is a Canadian born in Charlemagne, Quebec. She has been active from as far back as 1980, and first became known for her French albums in the 80s as a young teen star. Celine has a unique style to her singing which has been touched with many genres like pop, soft rock, R&B, gospel, and soul.
Coming from a large family where music was always a part of their lives, along with her brother Jacques and her mother, Celine wrote and composed her first song Ce n'était qu'un rêve or It was Only a Dream. This song along with her unusual quality of voice caused the producer René Angélilto to fund her and from there came her first record La voix du Bon Dieu which became a No.1 hit making her a star overnight. René Angélil went on to be her manager, producer, as well as husband till his death in 2016. Her album 'The Colour of My Love' was about that part of her life.
Worldwide recognition came her way when she won the Yamaha World Popular Song Festival in 1982, and later Eurovision Song Contest in 1988. It was only in 1990, that she came out with her first English album – Unison.
From that point, Celine became seen as one of the most influential voices in the singing world and has made it a point to present her art in languages other than English and French.
Albums featuring her work such as – Dion, Chante Plamondon, D’eux, Celine Dion, Falling into You, Let’s Talk About Love, among others that made a total of thirteen albums – continued to keep her at the top of the music industry and gained her numerous awards.
In 2000, she had a notion of settling down and stepping back from her career. But in 2002, after bearing a son, she decided to go back to her career with the album 'A New Day Has Come' which was released in March 2002. This album made diverse impressions, critics did not like it, and it gained negative comments and reviews while fans had a different view – it came at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with over 500,000 sales in just that first week. It went on to be certified Platinum in both the US and in Canada.
With this new beginning, Celine Dion went on to present albums in English and in French – D’elles, Sans attendre, Loved me back to life – among others. She also toured in support of her albums, in the US, Canada, and worldwide.
Of course, her style has matured over the years, she has amassed awards, Society of Singers Lifetime Achievement Award, France's highest award- Légion d’Honneur, and Companion of the Order of Canada.
She has also dabbled in the film industry both as an actress and as a singer. She has many films in her name and she sang themes like the love theme for Titanic, it became her signature song and got her two Grammy Awards.
It was thought that she would stop singing after the death of her husband, but she made the soundtrack for Beauty and the Beast. She also released 'Ashes' her latest single, and Celine is working on her latest album.
