Born on April 15, 1978, Chris Alvin Stapleton is an American singer-songwriter and also a guitarist. He was born and also raised in Kentucky. Later on, he moved to Nashville, Tennessee to begin his musical career as a songwriter, and he contributed to the repertoire of a good number of artists. His genre includes country, southern rock, and bluegrass.
Stapleton's father was a coal miner while his mother worked at a local health department. Hailing from a family of coal miners, Stapleton’s interests in music came out very much later as he had a good education where he was his class valedictorian, and he also entered college for engineering.
In the year 2001, Stapleton moved to Nashville in order to pursue a career in music by dropping out of college. He was very much into songwriting where within a short time of moving in Nashville, he signed up with the publishing house Sea Gayle Music. For 6 years, Stapleton wrote for many artists, and then it was in the year 2007, he became a frontman for the bluegrass group The Steeldrivers where the band provided the audience two hit records, both peaked at the second position on the bluegrass chart before Stapleton left the band in the year 2010. As soon as Stapleton left the group, he founded another band of the south named as The Jompson Brothers. The Band included four members where Stapleton took on the vocals. The Jompson Brothers released a self-titled album in November 2010 and the band toured regionally as the crowd following was the locals, and they went on playing their music until 2013.
After the deal with Mercury Nashville post-2013, Stapleton presented himself as a solo artist. “What Are You Listening To?” was the first single which got released in October 2013, but the performance was lukewarm. He tasted solo success when he released his debut solo album “Traveller” in the year 2015. The album got listed on the US Billboard 200 and it managed the number one position as well. The album got certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. Stapleton’s second solo studio album named "From A Room: Volume 1" got released in May 2017, and it was also a commercial success. For this album, Stapleton won the Country Music Association Award for Album of the Year and also won the Grammy for the Best Country Album. Later in the year 2017, December, the second Volume of From a Room was released.
Many of the very famous artists’ albums have the presence of Stapleton’s songs. It is said to be an estimate of 150 songs which includes artists like Adele, Luke Bryan, Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley and Dierks Bentley.
Chris Stapleton has been awarded five Grammys, five Academy of Country Music Awards, two Billboard Music Awards and also seven Country Music Awards. As a composer, Stapleton received nine ASCAP Country Awards which included the Vanguard Award as well.
