Coldplay is a British rock band. The band was formed in 1996, in London. It was founded by lead vocalist and keyboardist Chris Martin and lead guitarist Jonny Buckland at University College London (UCL). At present, the band includes lead singer Chris Martin, bassist Guy Berryman, guitarist Johnny Buckland and drummer Will Champion. Creative Director Phil Harvey is often considered as the official fifth member of the band.
After Chris Martin and Jonny Buckland established the band under the name Pectoralz, Guy Berryman joined the band as bassist and they decided to change its name to Starfish. The band again changed its name to Coldplay in 1998. The band decided to change its name to Coldplay prior to recording and releasing Safety in 1998, Brothers & Sisters as a single in 1999, and The Blue Room in 1999. Coldplay at first signed with independent label, Fierce Panda and they chose to sign with Parlophone Records in 1999.
Since its formation, the band showed a great skill to earn the minds and support of music lovers across the globe through their fresh music and innovative music styles. Their music concerts are all well occupied by the fans for a sole reason of quality. Their soulful, haunting, intelligent songs helped them to earn a lot of music fans and followers around the world. Coldplay attained global recognition and popularity with the release of the single Yellow and it was released in 2000. They released their debut album Parachutes in 2000 and it was chosen for the Mercury Prize as well. It is said that the band recorded their debut album Parachutes in four dissimilar studios. The band's second album was named as A Rush of Blood to the Head and it released in 2002. The second album of the band could win many awards, including NME's Album of the Year. The band’s album, X&Y was the best-selling album internationally and it was released in 2005.
The band's fourth studio album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (2008), could achieve some Grammy Award nominations and wins at the 51st Grammy Awards. Their fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto, was able to top the charts in more than 34 countries and it was the UK's best-selling rock album of 2011. The sixth album of the band was Ghost Stories and the band released their seventh album, A Head Full of Dreams, in 2015.
Coldplay has won 62 awards from the 209 nominations that they received right through their career. They won nine Brit Awards, Best British Group four times, five MTV Video Music Awards and seven Grammy Awards. Coldplay have sold above 80 million records internationally to this point and it has made them one of the world's best-selling music artists.
The current concert tour of the Coldplay is named as A Head Full of Dreams Tour and it is their seventh concert tour. The band launched their current music concert to support their seventh studio album, A Head Full of Dreams. The tour is scheduled to have a total of 60 shows across Latin America, which is their first performance since the Viva la Vida Tour, Europe, and North America. The first show of the tour was on 31st March 2016 and it will end on 8th October, 2017.
