Born Edward Christopher Sheeran on February 17, 1991 in Halifax, United Kingdom, the songwriter, record producer, and guitarists Ed Sheeran, the musician originates from Framlingham, Suffolk, England and specializes in pop, folk pop and acoustic genres and he has been active since 2004 to date. The United Kingdom based artists is a Grammy Award-Winning singer and songwriter who is popularly known among his fans for hit tracks such as ‘Thinking Out Loud’ and ‘Photograph’.
Ed Sheeran recorded his debut music, ‘Spinning Man’ in 2004, which was independently released. However, he moved to London in 2008 where he played in several venues and earning an opportunity to be auditioned for the ITV series, Britannia High. Once established in London, Ed Sheeran engaged in recording and playing local circuit, which prompted him to release the EP, ’You Need Me’ in 2009, a year in which he played over 300 live shows. By 2010, he moved to the next level in his music career through online media, which gave him a larger online fan base from where he released more songs and ending up with three new EPs that year.
Between 2011 and 2013, Ed Sheeran rose to international prominence by moving to the United States in 2011, where he was hosted by Jammie Foxx who requested him to appear on the Sirius Radio Show. He released another EP the same year and was his last independent release. The record lingered at number two on the iTunes Charts without any promotion, and he later signed with the Atlantic Records.
While with Atlantic Records, Ed Sheeran complied his major debut studio album, ‘+’ (read as Plus), which sold more than 801,000 copies and entered the United Kingdom Singles Chart at No. 3 in addition to selling more than 58,000 copies within the first week. It was his best selling single, as well as the overall 8th best selling single in 2011. This single further reached the top 10 hit in Australia, Ireland, Germany, New Zealand, Netherlands, Norway, and Japan. The singer and songwriter also started collaborating with established artists such as Taylor Swift and One Direction.
The song, ‘I See Fire’ featured in the movie ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ in June 2014, while his second album, ‘X’ debuted at number one in both the United States and the United Kingdom also featuring his top singles ‘Thinking Out Loud’ and ‘Photograph’. The song, ‘Thinking Out Loud’ won the Grammy Award in 2016 for the best pop solo performance. He continued to work on his third studio album, ‘÷’ (pronounced divided) that same year. Ed Sheeran released two singles, Castle on the Hill’ and Shape of You’ in January 2017, which debuted at number six and number one respectively on the Billboard Hot 100. This album broke the Spotify record, which reached more than 56.7 million listens in the first twenty-four hours for the first-day album streams. The song, Castel on the Hill’ drew its theme from the inspirations of his upbringing back in Framlingham, Suffolk, where the castle in reference is the Framlingham Castle.
