Fleetwood Mac is a British-American rock band that was formed in 1967 in London and is known to have sold over 100 million records worldwide. They have presented many genres over the years such as; pop rock, soft rock, blues rock, art pop, and British blues among others.
Fleetwood Mac was founded by Peter Green in 1967 with drummer Mick Fleetwood and guitarist Jeremy Spencer as well as bass guitarist John McVie coming as a later addition. The band named after Mick Fleetwood and John McVie. After Peter Green left in 1969, Fleetwood and McVie remained as original members, the band has since featured a cast of talents among whom are Christine McVie – married John McVie in 1969, joined in 1970, while Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham joined in 1974. Fleetwood Mac stands for an establishment of music that has connected with generations of people all over the world spanning more than 50 years. The band has sold millions of records worldwide and has won the Grammy Award and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.
Fleetwood Mac's first album was named after the band "Fleetwood Mac", was a blues album and was released on the Blue Horizon label in February 1968 and was followed closely by the band’s second album "Mr. Wonderful" which was released in 1969 and was also an all-blues album.
And it was also in 1969 that the band made its way to America, and there they recorded what would be their last blues; after that, they changed their style.
In the years 1970 to 1974 the Fleetwood Mac band went through a transition phase and in September 1970 they released "Kiln House" – the first album in the rock style with the new member Kirwan placing his style in it. In September 1971, the band released the album "Future Games" - it signified Bob Welch's arrival and Spencer's departure - and the album was quite different from anything the band had done up to that point. And, 1972 saw them release "Bare Trees" mostly composed by Kirwan and Spencer featured “Sentimental Lady”. The album was a great hit in the United States.
The next two and half years, there was a constant change of lineups and even though they released three albums; “Kiln House” was followed by “Penguin” and later “Mystery to Me”. But all was not well in the band – Kirwan had to go, Christine and John McVie split and so much more.
With the beginning of 1975 and up to 1987; the addition of two members namely; Linsey Buckingham and Steve Nicks and the release of the album "Buckingham Nicks" was to be the first of many years that would take them through a wonderful time where the Fleetwood Mac band would enjoy many years of success until 1987.
With the departure of both Buckingham and Nicks, the years from 1987 to 1995 saw a strange splitting and reuniting of the members; where each may have tried going on his own. However, the band was reformed between 1995 and 1997.
Since then the Fleetwood Mac band has released several albums and enjoyed successes, and despite the departure of Christine McVie in 1998, they have received Brit Awards and Grammy Awards.
