Future is an American rapper, born Nayvadius DeMun Wilburn in Atlanta Georgia in 1983 but known professionally as Future.
His first involvement with music was with the Dungeon Family, and it was there that he acquired the nickname 'Future'. And for a while, Future was busy putting mixtapes together, a period that took him up to 2011. After that, he signed with Epic Records as well as A1 Recording.
With this as his base, he launched his own label Freebandz. Not only that, Future was also his own songwriter and record producer for his rap songs where he infused a new style to this genre.
With the onset of 2012, Future released his first album 'Pluto', and it was not only met with positive reviews, but it came after the mixtapes Streetz Calling and Astronaut Status, both of which had made quite a statement, and a buzz with hit songs like Magic, Tony Montana, and Racks.
He went on to add these songs to his album, and the single Magic reached the Billboard 100 chart; it was sung by the rapper T. I. The album also had collaborations from other artists such as R. Kelly, Snoop Dogg, and Trae tha Truth. He later repackaged the album adding three new songs thus taking advantage of the attention that the album had gained him.
F.B.G: The Movie – was his next endeavor, a compilation mixtape where he featured artists that had been signed to his label. This mixtape became certified platinum and achieved over 250,000 downloads.
With plans to release his next album in 2013, the album would feature a different style in music veering towards R&B side by side with his norm, but the album was not released till early 2014. With collaborations from other artists like Rihanna, Drake, Wiz Khalifa, and Kanye West, among others, album 'Honest' sold 53,000 copies in week one and made a No.2 on the US Billboard 200. It was also Certified Gold by RIAA.
In 2015, Future released his third studio album – DS2. And, September of the same year he released a mixtape that was a collaboration between him and Drake – What A Time To Be Alive. It made the No. 1, not only on the Billboard 200 but also on Billboard Hot Rap, and The Billboard R&B. Since Jay Z in 2004, no artist had been able to make two albums in one year.
Purple Reign– his next mixtape came in January of 2016 and was followed closely by his fourth album 'EVOL' which came out in February, and it made a No. 1 on Billboard 200. He made another record; three No.1 albums on the billboards consecutively.
The fifth album 'Future' was released in February on the 17th, and unbelievably just one week later, specifically on the 24th of February; he released his sixth album 'HNDRXX'. It seems that it was not just speed that became his style and norm but quality as well since both albums went No. 1 on the Billboard 200, consecutively.
It takes our breath away to see someone working with such precision and speed, but that is what Future is about despite the fact that his personal life is in chaos.
