The American music duo Daryl Hall and John Oates, commonly referred to as Hall & Oates comes from Philadelphia. John Oates generally plays electric guitar while Daryl Hall concentrates as a lead vocalist. They write their own songs that they play either in collaboration or separately since they met while studying at Temple University in Philadelphia. The duo is popular for their genre blending including pop, soul, and rock in creating a distinctively beguiling and captivating brand.  The musical duo soon came into prominence and success through their popular hit songs such as ‘Private Eyes,' ‘Kiss on My List,' ‘Sara Smile,' and ‘Out of Touch,' as well as ‘Family Man,' ‘One on One’ and ‘Maneater.'

For the forty years, the group has been in existence; their friendship started way back in 1967 beginning stabs at collaboration almost immediately, however, their initial album would come in 1972. Their recording career has continued to focus on music concert sets, solo work, compilations, and they have produced a total eighteen studio albums. They owe their success mainly to their voices and were specifically responsible for the cheesiest 1980s music. Being one of the biggest acts during the period, Hall and Oates inched closer to the glossy and soulful 1980s pop by netting five number one hits in four years.

The release of fever pitch albums reached during the 2000s, with almost fifteen collections seeing the day by 2008. They also proliferated with live records in addition to A7E Live by request releases such as Live in Concert that hit the stores in 2003, which centered on their 1979 music concert when they issue ‘Ecstasy on the Edge.'  However, according to industry business environment in the 2000s was a lean period having done only three releases including ‘Do it for Love,' ‘Our Kind of Soul,' and ‘Home for Christmas’ in 2006.

The musical duo was very active in the 2010s producing projects and working both together and separately. They mounted several tours, as well as performing in concert on American Idol and the Voice.  However, in 2011 Daryl Hall released his 5th solo album, ‘Laughing Down Crying,' while on the same year John Oates released a tribute blues album titled ‘Mississippi Mile.' In 2014, John Oates collaborated with contemporary pop stars Hot Chelle Rae and Ryan Tedder to produce ‘Good Road to Follow.' During the same year, Hall & Oates were introduced into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

With the gamut of hits that transverses decade, certain old tunes of Hall & Oates have taken a new meaning, and have become more relevant in the present. Some of their most memorable hit songs include ‘She’s Gone’ in 1973, ‘Rich Girl’ in 1976, ‘Sara Smile’ in 1975, ‘Wait for Me’ in 1979, ‘Back together Again’ in 1976, ‘It’s Uncanny’ in 1977, ‘It’s a Laugh’ in 1978, ‘Why Do Lovers (Break Each Other’s Heart?)’ in 1977, ‘I Don’t Wanna Lose You’ in 1978, and ‘Do What You Want, Be What You Are’ in 1976.
