Houston Texans were formed on October 6, 1999, and played their first season in the National Football League (NFL) in 2002, making them the youngest franchise in the NFL. As a professional American football team playing the home matches in their NRG Stadium located in Houston Texas, the franchise is a member club of the American Football Conference (AFC) competing in the Southern Division. Before they played in their first season in the NFL, Houston Texans replaced the Houston Oilers who now play as Tennessee Titans.
The team is majority owned by Bob McNair and struggled in the 2000s only secured their first playoff berth in the 2011 season in the AFC South Division Championships. The team also managed to clinch other AFC South Division Championships in 2012, 2015, and 2016. Presently, Houston Texans are the only NFL team to have never made any appearances in a Conference Championship Game.
Houston Texans official mascot is a Toro with the cheerleading squad referred to as the Houston Texans Cheerleaders. Houston Texans flagship radio stations have been KILT 100.3 FM and SportRadio 610 AM; both are CBS Radio-owned. The Spanish language radio broadcasts the team uses are KGOL ESPN Deportes 1180 AM.
