The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee, James Vernon Taylor is a five-time Grammy Award winner. He is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. James Taylor is one of the best-selling music artists of all time as he has a record sale of more than 100 million records worldwide. Born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 12, 1948, James Taylor was born to a wealthy Scottish family from the South. James' father was a resident physician and his mother used to be a singer before she wed.
His start to the music field was through learning to play the cello when he was a child, and then he switched to learning the guitar during the 1960’s. During Taylor’s college days, he suffered from depression often and used to treat them with medication. He always knew that depression was an inseparable part of his personality.
Taylor achieved his first breakthrough performance in his second album "Sweet Baby James" even though he had launched his first album in his name but he did not taste success. It was in the year 1970 with the single “Fire And Rain”, Taylor witnessed success as his song was listed as number three in the chartbusters and in the coming year he achieved the number one position for “You’ve Got A Friend” which was once a recording of Carole King’s classic song. His songs were as meaningful as he had been through a lot, and he expressed all that in his music. People at his age just sang the words but Taylor just had all in him which made him express a lot in his works. His songwriting was very much intense.
His album "Sweet Baby James" sold more than 3 million copies in the U.S itself. This album showcased James' talent to the mainstream public. With the album, James earned several Grammy Award nominations which also had a nomination for Best Album of the Year. In the year 2003, Rolling Stone magazine did a countdown list of Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time and in that "Sweet Baby James" got listed #103 and “Fire and Rain” got listed #227.
He accounted a good amount of female fan followers. For the song “You’ve Got A Friend”, Taylor won his very first Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.
His third album "Mud Slide Slim and the Blue Horizon" was released in the year 1971, but it did not do that well. With his fourth album "One Man Dog", Taylor barely reached the top 75 and also the overall sales were disappointing. After the album got released, Taylor’s performance at the Radio City Music Hall made him decide to throw a party on account of his wedding to his fellow singer-songwriter Carly Simon on November 3, 1972.
In the year 1975 when Taylor released his Gold album "Gorilla" which reached at number #6 and also provided the biggest hit singles and in the year 1977 James Taylor gave his best album "JT" with Columbia Records, it was by far the most various album he had ever done.
Presently James Taylor shows his presence with performances at various concerts, celebrity shows, and social gatherings.
