Jason Thomas Mraz, popularly known as Jason Mraz, was born in Mechanicsville, Virginia, in 1977. He is original of Czech and Slovak descent through his grandfather. He was only 6 when he started performing, having learned to love music from his stepfather who was a drummer. He later went on to perform in school as cheerleading, school chorus, and drama club. And, at the age of 15, Jason Mraz was given the role of “Joseph”.
Jason Mraz is a singer and songwriter, and his genres are varied - Pop rock, blue-eyed soul, acoustic rock, acoustic hip-hop, alternative rock and reggae. It is interesting to note that he uses varied instruments as well namely Vocals, bouzouki, piano, keyboards, synthesizer, guitar and ukulele.
But he was not really known to fans except in 2000 when he became a coffee shop performer in San Diego, California, and it is his home now as well. It was a stepping stone for Jason Mraz, and in 2002 he released his first album "Waiting for My Rocket to Come" which peaked at Number 55 on the Billboard 200. From the first album came the single "The Remedy (I Won't Worry)" which became first top 10 single on the Billboard Hot 100, and went on to peak at Number 3, becoming one of the biggest songs of 2003. It was the song that brought him close to his fans and endeared him to them since it was about a friend who had cancer.
From there, he regularly went on to release his subsequent albums "Mr. A–Z" in 2005, then came "We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things" in 2008, "Love Is a Four-Letter Word" in 2012, "Yes!" in 2014, and "Know" in 2018.
Jason Mraz’s music has come to be known for the humanity it portrays, and he has not lacked for awards as he won two Grammy Awards. In 2010 he won the Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for the song "Make it Mine". And, again in 2010, he won another Grammy for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals for the song "Lucky". He has also been nominated for the Grammys twice in 2009 (Grammy Award for Song of the year and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance), both for the song "I Am Yours".
He has also participated in a musical 'Waitress' which went on for ten weeks, and some of the songs that he sang in the musical have gone on to be released as an album jointly with Sara Bareilles.
Known for the philanthropic efforts, he has participated in many causes such as environmental issues, human rights, equality, and he even went on to join in a rescue mission in Ghana – a nonprofit endeavor to free children that have been sold into slavery. Strangely enough, he became known as the first straight man to support LGBT rights.
Popular for his television appearances, he is a regular guest in popular shows and this has gained him a closeness along with a vegan style life that has made its mark on the businesses that he has a stake, and it has affected his music as well.
