John Clayton Mayer is an American singer, record producer, songwriter, and guitarist. He was born October 16, 1977, in Fairfield, Connecticut, USA. His music genres include Pop, rock, blues, folk, country, and soul. John plays Instruments such as Guitar, vocals, omnichord, piano, harmonica and percussion. He is active in the music field since 1998. By 2014, Mayer was able to sell more than 20 million albums globally. Mayer formed Dead & Company with three past Grateful Dead musicians.
In his early music career, he used to play at local clubs and it helped him to improve his skills as well as achieve a following. His appearance at the 2001 South by Southwest Festival aided him to sign with Aware Records. Later, he was signed to Columbia Records and it guided him to release his first EP, named as, Inside Wants Out. His albums such as Room for Squares released in 2001 and Heavier Things released in 2003 attained multi-platinum status.
Mayer started his career by acoustic rock performer but later, he moved to the blues genre which helped him considerably to be successful as a musician. He also collaborated with blues artists such as B. B. King, Buddy Guy, and Eric Clapton. In 2005, Mayer could release a live album called Try! His third album named as Continuum helped him to receive Mayer a 2007 Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album. In 2003, he won the Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance and he got the award for the single, Your Body Is a Wonderland.
