The Oakland Raiders are a professional American football franchise based in Oakland, California. This team was founded on January 30, 1960, and on September 11, 1960, they played their first regular season game as an American Football League (AFL) member at Kezar Stadium, San Francisco, California. Presently they are the members of NFL who merged with the AFL in the year 1970. The Oakland Raiders compete in the NFL as a member club of the AFC’s West Division, and they play home games at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.

The Raiders was owned by Al Davis in the year 1963. He wasn’t only the owner but was also the head coach of the team. The entry of Al Davis into the team improved the team’s performance dramatically, and this team rose to fame. Soon after Al Davis’s death, his son Mark Davis took over the team. The team colors are Silver, Black, and White. The team has been nicknamed as the Men in Black, Team of the Decades, etc.

The Raiders always had the urge to relocate its base to another place, and they have tried to relocate to Las Vegas, Nevada but it hasn’t worked out yet. This project is still on, and they will move soon either in 2019 or 2020. The year depends on the completion of the new planned stadium. Amidst a lot of controversies, the Raiders managed to relocate to Los Angeles. In 1995, the Raiders returned to Oakland. And post 2000, the Raiders witnessed a little bit of success in the early years.

The first victory of the Raiders was the Division Championship in the year 1967. The 70’s have seen victories which was pretty much intense. From the year 1970-77, the team won 6 division titles and reached the AFC Championship Game six times. In the year 1976, the team won its first NFL Championship with a good victory over the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl XI. The team managed to win its second Super Bowl championship with an easy victory over the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl XV to become the first wild card playoff team to win a Super Bowl. In the year 1982, the team finished with the NFL’s best regular seasons record the same year. A year later, the Raiders beat the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl XVIII. It's their last Super Bowl win to date. Then, from the year 2000-02, the Raiders won three consecutive division titles and four playoffs. Then, in the same year, the Raiders lose to Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl XXXVII. This loss of the team marked the beginning of the downfall when the Raiders struggled even to post a single victory. So in total, the team has won 15 division titles (3 AFL and 12NFL), 1 AFL Championship, 4 AFC Championships, and 3 Super Bowl Championships.

The Raiders are known for their extensive fan base and a very different team culture. Their fan club is named as Raider Nation. 15 prominent players/personas won the Pro Football Hall of Fame for Oakland Raiders. They are Fred Biletnikoff, George Blanda, Bob Brown, Willie Browns, Dave Casper, Al Davis, Ray Guy, Ted Hendricks, Ron Mix, Jim Otto, Warren Sapp, Art Shell, Ken Stabler, Gene Upshaw and Rod Woodson.

The NFL MVP Winners were Ken Stabler, Marcus Allen, and Rich Gannon and the Super Bowl MVP winners are Fred Biletnikoff, Jim Plunkett, and Marcus Allen.

The Oakland Raiders had the historical rivalry with the New England Patriots, New York Jets, and Pittsburgh Steelers. But the most remembered is the one with the Patriots as it's their first rivalry with another team and it happened in1978.
