Famously called as “The Sixers,” Philadelphia 76ers boasts one of the hottest participants and contenders of National Basketball Association championships as a member club of the league’s Eastern Conference Atlantic Division. Philadelphia 76ers are a Philadelphia-based professional Basketball team founded by Daniel Biasone in the city of Syracuse in the year 1946 under the name and flagship of the Syracuse Nationals. They are one of the oldest franchises in the NBA.
When Basketball Association of America got reconstituted in 1949, and National Basketball Association brought into existence to replace them, the NBA retained the Syracuse Nationals as one of the seven teams retained as the initial member franchise teams.
In 1963, Irv Kosloff and Ike Richman, the new investor franchise owners, moved the Syracuse Nationals from Syracuse to Philadelphia and renamed it as Philadelphia 76ers. Interestingly, it was the media who shortened the actual name and nicknamed it “Sixers.”

The Philadelphia 76ers are decorated with the 3 NBA Championships. “The Sixers” recorded their first glorious victory in the year 1955 by beating the Detroit Pistons. By then, the team had its original flag and banner “Syracuse Nationals.“
They grabbed their second Championship under Chamberlain in the 1966-67 by beating the Golden State Warriors. The Sixers were declared the best team in the league history during the NBA's 35th-anniversary celebrations.
In the year 1983, Moses Malone led the 76ers, and the Sixers added the 3rd feather to their cap in the 1982-83 season. This time, the Philadelphia 76ers avenged their defeat by beating the Los Angeles Lakers, who had defeated them in the previous season.
In 2000-2001, the Sixers finished 56–26 and grabbed the Atlantic Division title and a top seed in the Eastern Conference Playoffs. Due to excellent play by Raja Bell and Iverson, Philadelphia comfortably entered the NBA Finals and had to once again fight for the title against their last three previous Finals rivals the Los Angeles Lakers. 76ers’ Iverson won the Most Valuable Player Award in 2001 while leading the 76ers to the NBA Finals. Larry Brown, the Philadelphia 76ers' coach from 1997 to 2003, was honored Coach of the Year 2001.
I In the year 2009, the 76ers once again grabbed playoff berth by defeating Detroit Pistons and by the season 2011, they have got the playoff berth thrice in a four-year span. In the 2012 NBA playoffs, facing the 1st-seeded the Chicago Bulls, the Philadelphia 76ers beats them to record a win. Except on a few occasions, the Philadelphia 76ers have maintained their remarkable history of reaching the Finals and Playoffs.
