Popularly referred to as ‘The King Of Bachata’, known professionally as Romeo Santos is a chart-topping, award-winning, multi-platinum songwriter and Latin Music Superstar. Also known as Anthony Santos, Romeo Santos is also a record producer, actor, and former lead vocalist of the American Bachata band Aventura. Born on July 21, 1981, in The Bronx, New York City, New York in the United States, Romeo Santos concentrates on the bachata, Latin pop, and R&B genres, and is multi-instrumental playing piano, guitar, and vocals.
He is active in his musical career since 1995 to present and has since worked with recording labels such as RCA, Sony Latin, and Jive. He was born to a Dominican father together with a Puerto Rican mother from where he had humble beginnings in the Bronx. His father worked in the construction industry while his mother was a stay at home mom. By the early 1990s, together with his three cousins Max, Henry, and Lenny, they founded the group ‘Los Tinellers’ and released the album ‘Trampa de Amor’, a band they later changed its name to Aventura after a decade.
They formed the Aventura in 1997 with Romeo Santos as the principal songwriter and producer, and the group made its breakthrough in 1999 by breaking the bachata music from its traditional base to the mainstream entertainment by fusing it with pop music and considerably more with hip-hop and R&B. Their song ‘Obsesseion’ catapulted them to success in 2004, helping them to gain huge success in many countries including topping in French, Italian, and German charts. The group released five more studio albums during this decade producing several top 10 hits such as ‘Un Beso’, ‘El Perdedor’, ‘Los Infieles’, ‘Dile Al Amor’, ‘Por Un Segundo’, and many more.
The group Aventura separated in 2011 and later reunited on July 12, 2014, to close out the 2nd night of Romeo Santos Sold out Yankee Stadium concerts.
Romeo Santos later moved to pursue a solo career releasing his debut studio album, ‘Formula, Vol. 1’ that contains the song ‘You’ , which was placed at No.1 On the Hot Latin Songs, as well as Tropical Songs Chart. The second single in the ‘Promise’ featured collaboration with R&B artist Usher, which also topped the Hot Latin Songs Charts, as well as the Tropical Songs Charts. In 2012, Romeo Santos sold-out New York city’s popular Madison Square Garden three nights consecutively. The performance was later reproduced as a live album, ‘The King Stays King: Sold Out at Madison Square Garden’.
Again in 2014, Romeo Santos conquered another landmark in New York at the Yankee Stadium where he sold out a whole doubleheader show. These concerts propelled him to huge success making him the first Latino musician to headline at the stadium. The ‘Formula, Vol. 2’ was his sophomore album released on February 25, 2014, and featured other artists such as Marc Anthony, Nicki Minaj, Carlos Santana, Kevin Hart, Drake, and Tego Calderon. He later released a new single, in early 2017 ‘Heroe Favorito’ in February followed by his latest album ‘Golden’ on July 21, 2017.
