Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell has been known to her fans as Billie Eilish, born in Los Angeles, California in 2001. She has been brought up to absorb art as a way of life since her family is composed of actress-musician-screenwriter Maggie Baird and Patrick O'Connell. Homeschooling was followed by her joining the Children's Chorus at age eight. By age eleven, Billie Eilish was writing and singing her own songs, following in her older brother Finneas O'Connell’s steps who was already writing and singing his own songs with his band.
Her favorite genres are limited to Electropop and electronica, while her instruments are the vocals and the ukulele.
Billie Eilish is a teenage singer and songwriter who started her career with her debut single "Ocean Eyes". The song was a success and went viral to the extent that it amassed up to 87 million streams on Spotify and that is as of July 2018. She followed it with a video version where she danced to her own song.
She followed her success with the first single by successive singles namely "Bellyache" in February 2017 – co-written by Finneas O'Connell, "Bored" in March 2017, "Copycat" in July 2017, "Don’t Smile at Me" - her debut EP was released in August 2017 after much anticipation and a weekly single. A television series with its soundtracks "13 Reasons Why" was part of her work in 2017.
Billie Eilish has shown herself as a versatile singer with an exceptional ability for songwriting. Dancing to her own songs has given her a unique style and flavor despite her young age. Again, we notice that her youth has not prevented her from touring to promote her songs and in that respect, she has been on more than one tour - Where's My Mind Tour and 1 By 1 Tour in 2018.
Young in years, but she has been at her career for as much as ten years and as a gauge for her success she has been chosen by Apple for its newest “up next” artist for Apple Music and that was in 2017.
Billie Eilish has also received credits not just as a singer but as a songwriter, and here are some of her songs "Your Eyes" featuring Tayla Parx, "Sirens" featuring J.I.D.
She has collaborated with co-writers and artists to present work that we can only love and respect, not just for the beauty of the work that Billie Eilish has presented us with, but for the effort that had been placed in the songs she has given us. Had it been an older artist we would have expected it, but for the youth that she presents, we can only lift our hats in respect and awe.
In closure, we can only quote the BBC News and say – “Is she pop’s best new hope?”
